COVID-19 Vaccines Hit Pharmacies

Some pharmacies now offer on-site COVID-19 vaccinations

(RxWiki News) As COVID-19 vaccination efforts ramp up around the country, health officials are trying to bring vaccines to the most convenient places possible.

That's why COVID-19 vaccines recently became available at pharmacies across the United States.

This is part of a federal partnership with 4,600 pharmacies to distribute 1 million doses per week. Eventually, the program aims to expand to more than 40,000 pharmacies nationwide.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) chose the initial group of pharmacies strategically to serve the most people possible. According to Healthline, when the project expands to more than 40,000 pharmacies, there will be one pharmacy vaccination site within five miles of everyone in the country.

The process for getting a COVID-19 vaccine at a pharmacy will vary and depend on which state you live in. Each state has its own system and is rolling out vaccines to different groups at different times.

However, the basic process will remain the same no matter your location: Go to your state's COVID-19 website to see whether you are eligible and use the online system or provided phone number to schedule your appointment. Pharmacy vaccination sites will be included in the available sites for appointments.

As of publishing time, the CDC was reporting that more than 40 million people in the US had received at least one dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine.

If you have questions about the COVID-19 vaccine and your eligibility, reach out to your health care provider.
