Mucinex Fast-Max Severe Cold Overview
Mucinex Fast-Max Severe Cold is an over the counter medication used to treat symptoms of a cold and the flu, including fever, minor aches and pain, coughing, runny and stuffy nose, and chest congestion.
It is a single product containing 3 ingredients: acetaminophen, dextromethorphan, guaifenesin. Acetaminophen belongs to a group of drugs called analgesics, which is thought to work by blocking pain signals from reaching the brain. Dextromethorphan belongs to a group of drugs called antitussives, which work by blocking cough signals and reducing the urge to cough. Guaifenesin belongs to a group of drugs called expectorants. These works by causing the respiratory tract to release more fluids and soften mucous, which allows phlegm to be expectorated more easily.
This medication comes in an oral (by mouth) liquid, hot liquid, and caplet form, and is usually taken every 4 to 6 hours as needed, with or without food.
Common side effects of Mucinex Fast-Max Severe Cold include nervousness, and excitement.
