Preparation H Cooling Gel is an over the counter medication used to provides prompt, temporary relief from painful burning, itching and discomfort of hemorrhoids in adults and children 12 years of age and older.

Preparation H Cooling Gel contains two ingredients phenylephrine and which hazel. Phenylephrine is a vasoconstrictor that works by temporarily shrinking swollen hemorrhoidal tissue. The which hazel is an astringent that relieves swelling and helps repair broken skin.

This medication comes in a gel and is applied externally to the affected area up to 4 times daily, especially at night, in the morning or after each bowel movement.

Common side effects of Preparation H Cooling Gel include mild pain or stinging.
