Water makes up 60 percent of our body weight. Every system in our body depends on water. The amount of water you need to drink each day depends on your size and physical activity levels. Drinking enough water each day helps to clear toxins from the body and to pass waste through the digestive system. According to an article published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, dehydration is one of the most common reasons for being constipated. Unless they are on a fluid-restricted diet, constipated adults and children should increase their liquid intake. In addition to easing constipation, water lubricates and cushions the joints, which helps to prevent painful symptoms of arthritis and gout.
