Warning Signs of Depression

Depression and MS

Research has shown that people with multiple sclerosis (MS) are more likely to develop clinical depression than the average American. Some studies have shown that 50 percent of MS patients will likely experience major depressive disorder. Depression may start as a reaction to a diagnosis or to the challenges of living with the disease or as a result of the disease itself, since MS affects parts of the brain. Also, depression can be a possible side effect of medications that treat MS, such as corticosteroids.
